The Golden Globes would be the first big awards display of the new year where the redcarpet actually matters (sorry, People’s Choice Awards). And that night, the stars didn’t disappoint.
That’s not to imply they brought out the massive weapons — many were obviously saving their large ammo for that Oscars along with the Grammys. But consider the Globes as prizes season’s appetizer: lighting, enjoyment, and just adequate. This redcarpet isn’t particularly filet mignon, however, you still wouldn’t desire to miss it.
Here are our picks for the best dressed ladies of the 2016 Golden Globes.
KIRSTEN DUNST IN VALENTINO
Because “sexy high-class goth” never, ever fails.
ROSIE HUNTINGTON-WHITELEY IN ATELIER VERSACE
It’s practically mandatory that there has to be one girl nailing it in metallic gold at every awards show. This time around, it was Rosie HW.
ZENDAYA IN MARCHESA
The Galore cover girl served up her best Molly Ringwald in this 80s-inspired number.
TAYLOR SCHILLING IN THAKOON
She looks like a 60s Hugh Hefner, but sexier. That’s a compliment.
TARAJI P. HENSON IN STELLA MCCARTNEY
Look away from Taraji’s meticulously crafted brows for a sec and take in the glory that is this show-stopping look.
OLIVIA WILDE IN MICHAEL KORS COLLECTION
Ultra-low necklines are definitely huge right now and Olivia is really making the look work for her.
LAVERNE COX IN ELIZABETH KENNEDY
Laverne pulls off the impossible by looking timeless but not dowdy.
LADY GAGA IN VERSACE
This look is basically why Versace exists.
KATY PERRY IN PRADA
YES. If you’re gonna go 60s, go all the way.
KATE HUDSON IN MICHAEL KORS
Her makeup look is especially to die for.
JENNIFER LOPEZ IN GIAMBATTISTA VALLI HAUTE COUTURE
There’s a lot to this dress, but J. Lo somehow makes it look body-skimming and no-fuss.
JANE FONDA IN YVES SAINT LAURENT HAUTE COUTURE
This was a huge moment marking Saint Laurent’s return to haute couture. It’s fitting that the house chose to dress an icon.
JENNIFER LAWRENCE IN DIOR
J. Law always wears some ~*conceptual*~ and ~*architectural*~ Dior dress. Sometimes we think it’s just to mess with us and see how far she can push the limits of silhouette and symmetry while still ending up on everyone’s Best Dressed list. But guess what? She always looks amazing.
