Kate Middleton and Prince William Just Shared Sad Family News

Kate Middleton and Prince William just announced that they recently lost a very important member of the family: their dog, Lupo, who passed away last weekend.

On Sunday morning, the couple shared the devastating news alongside a sweet photo of the black English Cocker Spaniel on Instagram. “Very sadly last weekend our dear dog, Lupo, passed away,” the duke and duchess wrote. “He has been at the heart of our family for the past nine years and we will miss him so much.” Almost immediately, condolences from royal fans began to flood their feed.

“Thank you so much William and Catherine for giving a chance to get to know Lupo. He will be missed dearly. Sending my deepest condolences,” wrote one user, while another shared a similar sentiment: “So sad. Especially first family dog. They are our hearts on the outside.”

Lupo was bred from Kate’s parents Michael and Carole Middleton’s family dog, Ella, and was reportedly named after the duchess’s great-grandmother, Olive Christiana Middleton (née Lupton). The Cambridges are said to have adopted Lupo in 2011 as a companion for Kate while William was away in the Falkland Islands with the Royal Air Force.

Over the years, Lupo was photographed by his owners’ sides at polo matches, on walks near the Palace, and even in Prince George’s first official portraits — which is fitting because rumor has it that the royal pup helped choose his little brother’s name.

Ahead of his birth, it’s reported that Will and Kate had several pieces of paper with baby names all over the house, and “George” is the one Lupo put his paw on.
