Meghan Markle, Prince Harry might lose HRH styles after 1-year probation

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry might no longer be royals after Queen Elizabeth II’s one-year review since they stepped down, according to a report.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have stepped down from their royal roles earlier this year. However, according to reports, the couple is still under a 12-month review. The Queen wants to know if the current arrangement with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will work.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are living their lives the way they want in California. Although the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have decided to step down from their royal duties, the Queen hasn’t let them go fully.

The Queen gave the royal couple a year to decide, and it was also a way for her to examine if the transition would “work for all parties.”

“The Royal Family and Sussexes have agreed to an initial 12-month review to ensure the arrangement works for all parties,” a palace source said.

Royal author Robert Lacey shared his thoughts about the future of the Sussexes considering the 12-month review. He believed that they may no longer be called “royal” after the whole arrangement.

“There are two titles involved, there is the HRH status and then there is the actual title of Duke and Duchess of Sussex,” Lacey told Express.

“Obviously if the review in March concludes they can’t stay working royals, then it’s quite likely they would lose or forfeit their HRH styles. They have already put it into suspension.”

At present, the Queen didn’t remove Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s royal titles. However, the couple decided not to use their HRH titles.

“The way it is presented at the moment is that they are HRH but they choose not to use it, it doesn’t say that they are banned from using it,” the expert added.

“If this develops in the future, I think it will be presented in the same way – they choose not to be royals anymore. That doesn’t mean they give up their titles.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle decided to step down and work for a living. However, they are still in a probation period away from the Firm.

Under the probation rules, the Queen did not rip off their royal titles. However, they agreed that they would not use their HRH titles and abandon the Sussex Royal brand.

The Sussexes also lost their office and protection. Thus, they have to pay for their security.
