Arabia fashion designer Shrekahnth presents collection inspired wholly from Islamic art at Dubai Fashion Week 2011.

Indian born designer Shrekahnth, who moved to Dubai just three years ago, talks about the historic influences behind his vibrant new look and tell us we should all be going wild for animal prints this year. And Zaeem Jamal, the man behind the fashion brand Z for Z, also let’s us in on a few secrets of this season’s looks.
After last season’s collection which was inspired by the travels of Ibn Battuta, Shrekahnth’s latest look is influenced by Islamic embroidery through the years. The story of Islamic embroidery’ exhibition held in the Emirates Palace, ‘Arabian Nomads’ is the name of his latest collection. Nomadic and urban textiles from rich civilizations are fused in a modern way of digital art. It’s a modern journey of textures and their civilizations.
Robes in pale yellows, deep greens, pinks and blues flaunted flowing hemlines with square necklines. Busts carried motifs of flying eagles and digital fabric prints were enhanced so as to appear like wings on the back of the outfits.
The geometric patterns of the outfits replicated Islamic culture and art, while indulging in prints representing painted glass motifs as well as digital prints resembling cellular phone circuit boards.
