Victoria Beckham Spring 2016 NYFW Collection

Victoria Beckham is feeling carefree. In reality, she’s anything but, managing a family (which now includes a third celebrity, Insta-star Brooklyn) a business, and near-constant travels. “I feel that I’ve found the balance between living in London, traveling a lot to L.A., working in New York, traveling to Africa, doing my charity work, traveling to Asia,” Beckham said before her show. “Not that that has influenced the collection [intentionally], but it’s subliminal. You see it there.”

For spring, “it” manifested in an easy-breezy attitude – uncomplicated, nicely articulated clothes centered on a comfortably linear silhouette, with nary an evening thought in sight. While they weren’t vacation clothes per se, there was something of a takeaway feel to the skirts and dresses that danced around the models’ calves atop flat shoes, let-it-wrinkle washed duchesse and an easy-pack knit top-and-pants combo.

Ditto the patterns – bold by any standard and downright flamboyant from Beckham: an outsized gingham in off-kilter arrangements and a pictorial surf print, sometimes cut up and arranged into a graphic collage. Dark in a manner Beckham referred to as “urban,” this gave the collection a dollop of moody. But a dollop only. These days, fashion’s one-time queen of the hourglass is working the friendly side of the fashion street.
