Royal Family Shouldn’t Be ‘Underestimated,’ Institution Will Reinvent Themselves

The royal family has had a tumultuous year starting off with Prince Philip’s car crash. The incident was followed by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s controversial interview, as well as Prince Andrew’s sex scandal.

But while speaking with Express, royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams urged the public to not underestimate the British clan. He said that the royal family has the capability to reinvent themselves without a short period of time whenever necessary.

Fitzwilliams likened the events in the 1990s with the things that happened to the royal family in 2019. During that time, Prince Charles and Princess Diana announced their separation. Their divorce was finalized in 1996.

Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson also announced their separation in 1992, and their divorce was finalized in 1996. And one year later, the royal family was rocked by the sudden death of the Princess of Wales.

But even though things weren’t particularly good for the royal family back then, they still managed to pull through.

“Don’t neglect the tremendous capability of an institution that dates back over a thousand years,” he said.

Fitzwilliams also praised Queen Elizabeth for her ability to stay remarkable throughout. The royal commentator said that the Queen is still the world’s most highly respected head of state, and she remains dedicated to her duties.

Meanwhile, not everyone shares the same sentiments with Fitzwilliams. Last month, royal insiders claimed that Her Majesty lost central control of the Buckingham Palace.

BBC royal correspondent Nicholas Witchell blamed the monarch’s age for her alleged inability to take matters into her own hands.

“They would have advised, if their advice was sought, not to do it. The Queen was informed but she is 93 years old now, and she is not exercising the strong control she had if she ever did. There is now a lack of strong central control. We have had two episodes within just a couple of months, of senior members of the royal family doing it their way,” he said.
