The pair announced in a statement, which read, ‘The Earl and Countess of Snowdon have amicably agreed that their marriage has come to an end and that they shall be divorced.
‘They ask that the press respect their privacy and that of their family.’
The couple got married in October 1993 and have two children Viscount Linley, Charles Armstrong-Jones and Lady Margarita Armstrong-Jones.
The Earl’s mother Princess Margaret, the Queen’s sister, passed away in 2002. He became the 2nd Earl of Snowdon after his father – Antony Armstrong-Jones, 1st Earl of Snowdon – died in 2017.
The royal split comes just a week after the Queen’s grandson, Peter Phillips, announced he has also split from wife Autumn.
Their official statement read, ‘After informing HM The Queen and members of both families last year, Peter and Autumn jointly agreed to separate.
‘They had reached the conclusion that this was the best course of action for their two children and ongoing friendship. The decision to divorce and share custody came about after many months of discussions and although sad, is an amicable one.
‘The couple’s first priority will remain the continued well being and upbringing of their wonderful daughters Savannah and Isla. Both families were naturally sad at the announcement, but fully supportive of Peter and Autumn in the joint decision to co-parent their children.
‘Both Peter and Autumn have remained in Gloucestershire to bring up their two children where they have been settled for a number of years.
‘Peter and Autumn have requested privacy and compassion for their children while the family continues to adapt to these changes.’
It’s been a difficult few months for the Queen, after her son, Prince Andrew, stepped back from his royal duties due to his controversial friendship with Jeffrey Epstein.
The monarch has also had to deal with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision to step down from their roles as ‘senior’ members of the royal family, but has given them her full support since.
