Meghan Markle opens up about new Disney role in first interview since withdrawing from royal family

As the first interview since Meghan stepped back from the royal family viewers were hoping for some insight into their new ‘normal’ life.

Meghan Markle opened up about her new Disney venture in her highly anticipated first interview since she and Prince Harry stepped down as senior royals.

The Duchess of Sussex is now living in her native Los Angeles, California, with Harry and their baby son Archie. Meghan chose Good Morning America for her first interview since the couple decided to withdraw from royal family duties at the end of March.

Viewers were hoping for some insight into their decision to start a new life together in the US but, no doubt under strict instructions, the pre-recorded interview focused solely on her new Disney documentary, Elephant.

In the short interview, which aired on US television today, the 38-year-old said she hopes the documentary will help change the world for the better by encouraging people to take care of eachother and the planet.

“I’m really grateful to have this opportunity to be a part of bringing this story about elephants to life,” she said.

“These creatures are so majestic and yet they are so sensitive and so connected.

“I’ve been lucky enough to be able to have hands on experience with elephants in their natural habitat when you spent time connecting to them and other wildlife you realise we have a role to play in their preservation and their safety.

“We see in this film how amazing they are, the close connection in the herd, the protectiveness of their young, I think they are a lot more like us than they are different.”

“I hope that when people see this film they see how connected we all are and if we had more of an awareness about the obstacles we are facing…

“We would take care of each other, the planet and animals in a very different way

“That’s why is really important to me to help tell that story.”

Meghan is the narrator for the Disneynature documentary ‘Elephant’, which is available on the new Disney+ streaming service.
