The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s son Archie was no stranger to being showered with gifts upon his public debut last year, and Buckingham Palace has now revealed the slew of goods he received.
Archie Harrison earned his first international passport stamp at just four-months-old, and the list of official gifts shows he received plenty of goods on his first royal tour.
While in Africa, Harry and Meghan’s son was presented with 14 books, four soft toys, and two beaded bracelets by well-wishers, as well as a framed picture, hooded sweater and knitted jumper.
In a gift suggesting a potential career for the future, the baby was also given a pilot’s log book and two accompanying shirts.
The meeting between the Sussexes and Archbishop Desmond Tutu, a hero of the anti-apartheid movement, in Cape Town saw Archie receive two children’s books the Archbishop had personally written — a series of Bible stories, and Desmond And The Very Mean Word.
Archie, who turns one next month, also received a pair of custom-made dungarees that Meghan reportedly described as “very cute”.
The outfit was made by Lesedi Masemola, manager of Tshepo’s showroom, an emerging South African label.
Masemola also gifted Meghan with a pair of designer ‘skinny’ jeans she claimed to have made specifically for the Duchess.
Though the jeans did not make the official list of gifts received during their tour of South Africa, Meghan received a range of retail gifts, including three pairs of socks.
Archie’s grandparents, the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall, also received 36 presents for their grandchild, including four soft toy pretzels, two cuddly lions, and a pair of brown leather lederhosen – the German theme of the gifts owing to their visit to the country just days after Archie was born.
German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier also gifted Archie a blanket, hat and a teddy bear.
Though the youngest in the family is often the most spoilt, the Queen herself received 72 official presents last year, including a 24-carat gold-plated horse comb from President Borut Pahor of Slovenia.
In addition, Prince Charles received some ‘luck of the Irish’ in May, 2019, gifted a green knitted cape, a walking stick and an oak tree sapling.
Among the more decadent gifts were four boxes of cigars and a bottle of rum the Prince of Wales took home after a historic visit to Cuba from President Miguel Diaz Canel Bermudez.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, no strangers to gifts upon international travel, reportedly collected enough outfits and headwear during their tour of Pakistan to fill a wardrobe – including nine shawls for Kate Middleton.
Prince William received two lavish watches during his visit to Kuwait, gifted to him by Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, Deputy Minister of the Amiri Diwan, and five bottles of perfume by well-wishers, three jars of nuts, and a ceremonial axe by the Governor of Musandam during his trip to Oman.
As Harry and Meghan have since stepped down from their roles as senior royals and relocated to Los Angeles, California, we can only wonder what kind of gifts Archie can expect for his first birthday on May 6.
