The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge met while attending St Andrews University, and began living together soon after. In order to make their new place fit to their taste, the pair bought something rather surprising.
William and Kate met each other as first-year students at the University of St. Andrews in 2001.
The two of them lived in the same residence hall and had several mutual friends, and quickly became friends themselves.
However, at the time, they were both dating other people, so nothing romantic developed until a little later.
When William and Kate were single once again, William allegedly fell for his future wife when he saw her walking in a charity fashion show.
Soon after, the pair started going out together.
William and Kate’s first experience living together came during their second year at St. Andrews.
They decided to move out of their school’s on-campus housing and into an apartment with two other friends.
A year later, the young couple decided they needed more privacy and moved into a four-bedroom cottage by themselves.
This new home of course had a number of security features installed for William’s safety, but the couple also had a number of items installed to make the house their own.
The popular couple planned to hold regular social gatherings, and installed a champagne fridge as a fun new addition to their first home together.
Royal writer Katie Nicholl wrote: “William and Kate intended to entertain frequently: he installed a champagne fridge as soon as they moved in, while Kate set about dressing the kitchen windows with pretty red-and-white gingham curtains.”
However, the royal couple living together was short lived, and the two wouldn’t live together again until many years later.
William and Kate broke up briefly in 2004 before graduating from St. Andrews in 2005.
The couple then began pursuing work in other cities.
After tying the knot in 2011, William and Kate lived in Wales for about a year.
Today, William, Kate, and their three children live in Kensington Palace.
In addition to Kensington Palace, William and Kate also have a country estate called Anmer Hall, where they are currently social-distancing during lockdown, as well as homeschooling their three children.
They often take the children to the country residence when they have breaks from school.
The family enjoys taking care of the animals on the estate’s farm, and William shared that his kids even enjoy lambing.
However, the lockdown hasn’t stopped the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge from completing their royal engagements and has given them lots of time to spend with their children.
