The Duke and Duchess of Sussex cut ties with the Royal Family in January, stepping back from their senior roles in a bid to seek financial independence. The pair have since moved to Los Angeles, on the west coast of the US, and are living in a multi-million dollar home with their one-year-old son, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor.
It is unclear what the Duke and Duchess of Sussex plan to do to make their fortune but former Suits star Meghan made a return to screens, with a Disney deal, and the couple have launched their foundation Archewell. Meghan and Prince Harry’s plans are said to be “up in the air” at the moment.
Plans to launch their own foundation, Archewell, and break into the corporate world of public speaking are on hold due to coronavirus. Royal Editor of the Daily Mirror Russell Myers told RNZ, a radio station in New Zealand, the couple are facing an uncertain future.
He told RNZ: “All of their plans are simply up in the air at the moment. “They had huge plans once they settled in LA, they had big plans to set up their own foundation and obviously these plans are in tatters.” Mr Myers also said Meghan and Harry were rumoured to have considered breaking into public speaking which could make them a fortune.
He told RNZ: “They had plans to launch themselves into the corporate world, in the very very lucrative world of public speaking, where they could potentially net millions and millions for a single gig.” The Duke and Duchess’ plans are now on hold though as the “whole world has stopped” due to coronavirus which is “very different” from what was expected.
Mr Myers added: “Now, the world has stopped, the world as we know it is very different right now, and so they are going to need an awful lot of money to maintain their lifestyle, they’re playing £7,000 a day for security, that Prince Charles is footing the bill.”
While in lockdown, Harry and Meghan have been snapped donating to an LA homeless charity, speaking out on Black Lives Matter and the George Floyd protests, as well as confirming plans to renew their sponsorship of a London rescue centre Mayhew.
