Prince Harry, Meghan Meet With Key People Around Black Lives Matter

After her emotional and powerful speech addressing George Floyd’s death, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are reportedly in talks with the people in charge of the Black Lives Matter movement.

The Sussexes are reportedly quietly meeting with key people of different organizations to understand the matter at hand even more and to educate themselves about the racial injustices that are still happening at present. A source told Harper’s Bazaar that Markle’s involvement is personal because of her experience in the past.

“[A]s a couple, it is, of course, very important. They are both feeling it, just like the rest of us,” the insider added. The couple reportedly wanted to fully comprehend the extent of police brutality following the death of Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis authorities, which triggered disgust and anger across the world.

“Both Meghan and Harry have been quietly having meetings behind the scenes with people on all levels to make sure that they are educated and connected to the issues of police brutality and the Black Lives Matter movement,” the source continued.

By meeting with the people in-the-know of current events, Markle and Prince Harry see this as a way of being connected. This came days after the Duchess of Sussex gave an impassioned talk on racism and the senseless deaths of so many people, including Floyd.

Markle talked about Floyd’s harrowing death in a commencement speech delivered for the graduates of her alma mater, Immaculate Heart High School. However, a spokesperson for the duchess told People that the former “Suits” star originally planned to give words of encouragement to the students.

Indeed, in her speech, Markle opened the message by saying that in the previous weeks, she had been thinking about what to say to them. But because of the “absolutely devastating” events across the country, the wife of Prince Harry said she wasn’t sure what to tell the graduates.

“I realized the only wrong thing to say is to say nothing. Because George Floyd’s life mattered and Breonna Taylor’s life mattered and Philando Castile’s life mattered and Tamir Rice’s life mattered. And so did so many other people whose names we know and whose names we do not know. Stephon Clark, his life mattered,” Markle said.
