Queen Elizabeth II’s official birthday is being marked by a stripped-down Trooping the Colour ceremony today. The event has been shifted to Windsor Castle for the first time in 125 years after the coronavirus pandemic forced a change. More than 1,700 troops and 400 musicians traditionally perform at London’s Horse Guards Parade in front of huge crowds.
However, today, fewer than 100 Welsh Guards have taken part in a private parade set to last just 20 minutes on the quadrangle.
Much to the disappointment of royal fans, it is confirmed Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will not participate, as they stepped down from royal duties earlier this year and relocated to the US.
Unearthed reports, though, shed light on the first time they attended Trooping the Colour together in 2018.
In a throwback report by The Daily Mirror, a lip-reading expert revealed that in a whisper to her husband, Meghan admitted to suffering from nerves.
To the general public, the Duchess of Sussex looked comfortable and at ease alongside Harry as she waited to curtsy to the Queen in front of the huge crowd gathered on the Mall.
However, it was later revealed that she needed some reassurance.
According to a lip reader, at one point Harry wiped his mouth as he turned to talk to Meghan and asked her simply: “Okay?”
To which she replied: “Yeah, are you?”
