British Royal Family: Kate Middleton Feeling Immense Pressure To Be New Royal Role Model

Now that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have settled into their new lives in Los Angeles, it’s up to Prince William and Kate Middleton to not only carry all of that extra workload they’ve left behind, but also take on more prominent roles within the monarchy. If there is one person who is definitely feeling this added pressure, it’s the Duchess of Cambridge.

Not only has the 38-year-old stepped things up in her charity work and number of royal engagements per week, but she’s also trying to take care of her family and three children at home, too. In other words, she is certainty the most famous multi-tasker and working mom in the world.

“Those who know her say there is a real core of strength, and she did set her mind to the job,” Sarah Gristwood, author of Elizabeth: The Queen and the Crown, tells PEOPLE in this week’s cover story. “But at the same time, she’d have to be superhuman not to feel the pressure.”

If that weren’t enough, Kate also knows that she has to be several people in one a princess, a supportive spouse to her husband Prince William, a hands-in mother, a charity advocate and of course, a style icon. But can she handle it all at one?

“The future Queen is a role model to the U.K. but also to the world, which means all eyes are on you,” says royal etiquette expert Myka Meier, author of Modern Etiquette Made Easy. “The added pressure of having cameras everywhere to catch even the slightest eye movement makes everything she does a conscious effort. From the perfectly poised posture to the way she descends a staircase or gets out of a car—it is all carefully done.”
