Last night during the American League Championship Series, ESPN made the announcement that Steve Phillips is no longer working for ESPN. It has been less than a week since his affair with the 22 year old production assistant, Brooke Hundley became known. According to the network, "His ability to be an effective representative for ESPN has been significantly and irreparably damaged, and it became evident it was time to part ways.”

A statement was issued by the Steve’s rep saying that Phillips "is voluntarily admitting himself to an in-patient treatment facility to address his personal issues."

The nature of the personal issues has not been specified. It has become known that Steve was planning to get himself checked in days before ESPN’s decision.

After details emerged of his relationship with Brooke Hundley, whom he had met at the All-Star Game in St. Louis, Phillips took a leave of absence.

Statements have been issued by Steve and his wife, Marni Phillips, to the police describing harassing phone calls by Hundley after the relationship ended. Hundley also visited the Phillips at their home in August. She also dropped off a letter detailing her affair with Steve.

Steve Phillips is a former GM of the New York Mets, who has risen steadily on ESPN’s depth chart, joining Jon Miller and Joe Morgan in the game booth Sundays.
