In an article for the New York Times, Meghan Markle revealed that she and her husband lost their unborn child in July.
The harrowing incident started while Markle was taking care of her 1-year-old son, Archie, at the comfort of their home in Santa Barbara.
Markle revealed that she felt a sudden gush of pain before falling to the floor but still cradling her son. She tried to console herself and Archie by humming a lullaby.
Hours later, the Suits alum finds herself lying in a hospital bed with Prince Harry by her side. The Duke of Sussex is in tears, and he and his wife are holding each other’s hands.
Markle also revealed staring at Prince Harry, who was devastated at the loss of their baby and thinking how are they going to heal.
The former Hollywood star decided to open up about her miscarriage to break the taboo the surrounds the matters.
“Losing a child means carrying an almost unbearable grief, experienced by many but talked about by few. Despite the staggering commonality of this pain, the conversation remains taboo, riddled with (unwarranted) shame, and perpetuating a cycle of solitary mourning,” she wrote.
The Duchess of Sussex also admitted that certain events this year contributed to a difficult 2020 for a lot of people.
“Health rapidly shifts to sickness. In places where there was once a community, there is now a division. We aren’t just fighting over our opinions of facts; we are polarized over whether the fact is, in fact, a fact. We are at odds over whether science is real. We are at odds over whether an election has been won or lost,” she wrote.
On Twitter, Markle’s fans and critics reacted to the news that she suffered a miscarriage.
One of them accused the Duchess of Sussex of using her miscarriage as a PR tool.
“I don’t begrudge Meghan Markle the right to talk about her miscarriage. It’s a good thing. But as a PR vehicle? Camilla rehabilitated her reputation by working tirelessly for others. Meghan tries to do it by talking about herself. Work/others vs talk/self = 2 different worlds,” Twitter user @emteess wrote.
“I KNEW IT! SHE’S LOOKING FOR THE SYMPATHY VOTE NOW! HOW DARE SHE. The same stunt she pulled right after the wedding. Will someone tell her that we know about ‘Moonbump Merchie!’ Does Harry know? SHAME SHAME SHAME!” Twitter user @toproyalmoments wrote.
“Meghan Markle is sharing something as painful as having a miscarriage, to take away the stigma that women still feel about this. And here goes the racist UK media being hateful towards her?! See y’all tried to be bury but didn’t know she was a seed!” Twitter user @OpinionatedQue2 wrote.
It has indeed been a difficult year for Prince Harry and Markle. After quitting The Firm in January in the hopes of leading more private lives, they soon realized that privacy isn’t theirs to have.
The paparazzi continued to follow the Duke and Duchess of Sussex everywhere they went. And the media didn’t stop criticizing them for every move they made.
Earlier this month, Markle sparked rumors that she could be pregnant because the judge agreed to delay her hearing with Mail on Sunday to October 2021.
But as royal fans now learned, Meghan Markle isn’t pregnant. And she recently just lost her child.
