FDA alert: Throw this herb away immediately if you have it at home

The Food and Drug Administration has issued a new public recall for this very popular cooking herb that you may have in your home.

No one likes purchasing food that could be potentially dangerous, which is why the Food and Drug Administration issues public recalls.

Just recently, the FDA issued one of these recalls on its public bulletin, and this time around, the regulatory agency has shined a light on a specific herb that has been sold under a variety of brand names. That herb is basil, and the FDA is recalling roughly 15,000 units from Shenandoah Growers, Inc, which is based out of Harrisonburg, Virginia.

The product was sold in containers that contained lot codes, which means that if you need to verify if you have any of the product, you can do so by checking the number on the product and the one located on the FDA website. The basil is being recalled due to the risk of Cyclospora, which can lead to an infection called Cyclosporiasis. If you get this infection, your symptoms will mostly be digestive related; nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, cramping, and pain being the most common symptoms.
