It has been over a decade since Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries began dating after they met in December 2010.
Just five months into their whirlwind romance, the couple became engaged and they went on to tie the knot at a lavish wedding in August 2011.
At the time, Kim was a vision in her Vera Wang gown as the lovebirds said their vows among their nearest and dearest at a £6million ceremony.
However, the blossoming romance was doomed to fail within just months – going on to be remembered as one of the briefest Hollywood marriages to date.
Just 72 days after their nuptials, Kim made headlines when she then dramatically filed for divorce from the basketball star.
While Kim and Kris have reflected upon their doomed romance throughout the years, its unlikely that Kim will be wishing her ex husband a Happy Birthday as he turns 36 today.
But one decade on from when he first met the reality star, where has the former professional basketball player’s life taken him?
Nowadays, Kris is retired from his successful sporting career and has gone on to dabble with real estate, but the journey hadn’t always been easy.
Reflecting upon the years after his split, Kris revealed that he found himself in a ‘dark place’ after parting ways with Kim.
“There was about a year where I was in a dark place,” he wrote for The Players’ Tribune in 2019.
“I didn’t want to leave my home. You feel like the whole world hates you, but they don’t even know why. They don’t even know you at all. They just recognize your face, and they’re on you.
“I didn’t want to be Kris Humphries. It’s the craziest feeling in the world, not wanting to be yourself. And I didn’t even want to say anything to defend myself, because it felt like I couldn’t win.”
Kris was an accomplished basketball star before his romance with Kim, however he has also since suggested that the fallout of the split affected his reputation.
“I never wanted any of this,” he continued in his 2019 essay.
“My whole life, I just wanted to be remembered as a great athlete.”
Kris went on to admit that his romance with Kim was genuine for him, adding: “There’s definitely a lot about that world that is not entirely real. But our actual relationship was 100 percent real.
“When it was clear that it wasn’t working… what can I say? It sucked. It’s never easy to go through the embarrassment of something like that – with your friends, with your family… But when it plays out so publicly, in front of the world, it’s a whole other level. It was brutal.”
The sports star eventually retreated even further from the spotlight by returning to spend sometime in his hometown in Minnesota.
In 2019, the NBA player officially announced he was retiring from basketball and has since opted for a quieter life out of the spotlight.
It has been reported that the former NBA player runs a chain of Crisp & Green restaurants and Five Guys burger joints.
While Kris has also remained relatively tight lipped about his love life, earlier this month he was pictured enjoying a sunny beach trip in Miami with model Neyleen Ashley.
Sharing several snaps on social media, the duo appeared in high spirits as they posed for snaps will topping up their tans.
At the same time, Kris’ ex-wife Kim has also been rocked by rumours that she is set to divorce her husband of six years, Kanye West.
