When asked about the rumor that she had made Kate Middleton cry, Markle quashed the speculation–admitting that the opposite had actually happened.
In the CBS interview, Oprah inquired about the rumor (which was heavily covered in British tabloids) that Meghan had brought Kate to tears over a conversation about flower girl dresses.
“The reverse happened,” Meghan confessed. “And I don’t say that to be disparaging to anyone, because it was a really hard week of the wedding, and she was upset about something. But she owned it, and she apologized and she brought me flowers and a note apologizing.”
Although Meghan confirmed the tense conversation was about flower girl dresses, she refused to go into any more details. “I don’t think it’s fair to her to get into the details of that because she apologized,” she told Oprah.
“And I’ve forgiven her,” Markle added.
It does not seem like the Duchess of Sussex holds any ill will toward the Middleton, emphasizing that she thinks her sister-in-law is a “good person.”
Markle added that fans should stop pitting them against each other. “If you love me, you don’t have to hate her. And if you love her, you don’t have to hate me,” she explained.
As for how Kate Middleton feels, royal expert Katie Nicholl estimated that she is upset by the whole situation.
She told Entertainment Tonight, “I think that the idea that Kate’s being dragged into this will be upsetting for Kate who behind the scenes has tried really hard to be a peacemaker between William and Harry. She has been deeply saddened by the brothers’ falling out. Don’t forget she was incredibly close to Harry herself.”
