Even being a prince has not saved Harry from financial concerns. During the bombshell Oprah Winfrey interview, Prince Harry admitted that he had been cut off financially by his family in early 2020, making it difficult for him and Meghan Markle to afford moving away — particularly considering security would no longer be provided for them.
The couple made do with the help of Tyler Perry, who offered up his home and security to them while they got settled in California. Perry was not the only one who helped them get during this time. Apparently, Princess Diana left her son the funds he needed to make this possible.
He later added, “Touching back on what you asked about what my mum would think of this, I think she saw it coming.”
“I certainly felt her presence throughout this whole process,” Harry said of his late mother.
Throughout the interview, Harry mentioned Diana often, drawing parallels between his current situation and the one his mother faced. “For me, I’m just really relieved and happy to be sitting here talking to you with my wife by my side, because I can’t begin to imagine what it must have been like for her going through this process by herself,” he said.
“It’s been unbelievably tough for the two of us but at least we had each other,” he continued.
Harry also said that his worries about “history repeating itself” made the move necessary.
Luckily, his inheritance from Diana supported that decision. As for the exact numbers, according to Page Six, the inheritance was originally around $8.9 million. However, over time, that number grew to $13 million, thanks to investments and interest.
Many critics have accused the couple of leaving the royal family for financial gain, citing their multimillion dollar deals with Netflix and Spotify as proof.
However, Harry insisted “the Netflixes and Spotifys of it all was never part of the plan.”
