New York Post correspondent Steven Nelson brought that up during Wednesday’s White House briefing and White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki wasn’t having it.
“She hasn’t visited the border or Central America or spoken with leaders of El Salvador or Honduras,” Nelson told Psaki. “She traveled this week, took time to visit a bakery in Chicago. I’m wondering, is she still working on this [border issue], and can you address the perception that she’s kind of quietly backing off?”
There’s a whole lot packed in there,” Psaki said. “The vice president was visiting Chicago actually to talk COVID and the importance of communities getting the vaccine when it’s available and accessible to them.”
“And so, while she was there, like many Americans, she got a snack,” she added. “I think she’s allowed to do that.”
Watch:
Gee, I hope conservatives don’t launch efforts to cancel snacks now. At any rate, if you’re going to try to go head-to-head with Psaki, you should go armed with more than a right-wing talking point over Harris going to a bakery.
As for the Fox News article, it should be listed as satire.
“Vice President Kamala Harris on Tuesday visited a bakery in Chicago, coming away with a piece of German chocolate cake — even as she faces scrutiny for not having visited the overwhelmed southern border,” the report states. “According to the pool note, Harris said her favorite is German chocolate and gets it for her birthday each year, and her staff had preordered a slice for her.”
