Lamar Odom spoke candidly about his current health status following his life-threatening addiction.
Odom’s fans knew what the former basketball star went through especially when he and Khloe Kardashian split. For what it’s worth, he lost consciousness in Las Vegas after going on a four-day bender. He even suffered from numerous strokes and seizures.
Fortunately, he recovered from it and credited his recovery to one thing.

How Lamar Odom overcame addiction
The 41-year-old athlete told Good Morning America on Monday his secrets behind recovery. Per Odom, he even used the synthetic substance ketamine to keep his recovery on air.
Thanks to everyone who extended love and prayers to me during my time of bereavement. Special thanks to my team @savvygirlconsu1 you gals always hold me down when needed. @KARLIEREDD thanks for having this pic of my dad and I made 😘

Ketamine is a type of pain medication that brings hallucinogenic effects to a patient. Per Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the drug also acts as anesthesia.
“I went to rehab and did some other things, but ketamine came into my life at the right time,” he said, as quoted by Fox News. “I’m feeling amazing. I’m alive. I’m sober. I’m happy.” For Odom’s part, he takes small doses of the medicine with hour-long effects which helps him not to turn to drugs.
Furthermore, he mentioned that when Kobe Bryant died, doing drugs did not enter his mind anymore. Still, he noted that the use of ketamine might be life-long.
“I don’t think I will stop it,” he said. “I don’t want to try to stop to be great. If I have greatness inside of me, I want to try to get it out.”
Fans reacted to Odom’s recovery
While Odom feels like he already stopped taking drugs, some internet users said that the athlete “just switched” the substance.
One said, “Sounds to me like he’s just switched drugs. That’s hardly “overcoming” an addiction. His rehab doctors got over on him.”
“I do not wish Odom anything but good. But, Ketamine is used by medical practitioners and veterinarians as an anesthetic. He just replaced one set of drugs or another drug which will eventually kill him,” one penned.
Meanwhile, another commenter added, “The dude is very lucky to be alive. Now he needs to move forward with his other responsibilities of being a dad and supporting his kids. You can do it, man.”
