Nicole Miller Resort 2022 Collection

Nicole Miller’s resort collection displayed an optimistic, fashion-forward glamping getaway.

“We were all excited about this fancy camping idea,” Nicole Miller said over Zoom. The day before, the designer and her team had taken the ferry to Governor’s Island’s newly luxed-up glamping locale to shoot her latest collection.

Looking into the resort, Miller wanted to bring forth the optimistic spirit, as well as the idea of a vacation getaway. “Early on we were in that direction and then after doing a lot of research into locations — in the end, this was the closest and most accessible.”

The look: Casual utility mixed with just enough feminine flair.

Quote of note: “It brought out the tomgirl in me, this collection,” she explained, later adding, “I combined everything feminine with something a bit tougher, I love the contrast.”

Key pieces: An emphasis on dresses — ranging from slightly boho frocks styled with rubber boots and a safari dress to a standout camouflage mini jacket dress.

The updated camouflage print was a new innovation for the designer — she injected a little blue into the colorway, added subliminal little animals on top and printed it atop a new cotton ripstop fabric.

Utilitarian looks head to toe — a clam digger pant, triple-needle stitched dresses and separates, cotton ripstop and redone military jackets and more.

The takeaway: The collection brought forth Miller’s strengths of contrasting a tough edge with femininity, in an accessible way. The location rounded out the idea of an outdoor adventure road trip. – wwd
