Five-year-old Girl ‘vomited A Blood Clot The Size Of A Hand After Hospital Sent Her Home’

A mother reports that when her five-year-old daughter was sent home from the hospital just 20 minutes after having a tooth out, she vomited blood clots the size of her hand. Esme-Lyn had been having severe bleeding following the removal of three teeth 12 hours earlier when Lois Booth, 34, woke up in the middle of the night. Esme-Lyn was choking on the massive clots.

Little Esme-Lyn, according to Lois, was barely awake from the anesthesia when she was released from Whiston Hospital in Preston, Lancashire, only 20 minutes after entering surgery. The little child bled freely all day, but the clots didn’t come up until the night, when her scared mother called an ambulance in the early hours of December 13.

While Lois alleges she had to bribe medical staff to get a test to determine how much blood her daughter had lost, she was hurried to see a specialist at Royal Blackburn Hospital. Esme-Lyn was released from the hospital about 13 hours later, but according to Lois, the reason for the bleeding was never identified, according to the DailyMail.

The hairstylist is worried that young Esme-Lyn is traumatized and has begun sobbing in her sleep since she is having dreams about the “hell and back” night. That was dreadful, according to Lois from Bolton in Greater Manchester. I’m at a loss for words since I really believed I was going crazy.

She fell asleep [after returning from the hospital and an urgent dental visit], so I essentially simply stuffed her mouth, put her up on pillows, and kept an eye on her the whole night.

I must have slept off because I heard someone coughing and gurgling when I woke up. As I switched on the light, she was spewing brilliant crimson blood. That was dreadful beyond words. “By the time the paramedics arrived at our house, her bedroom almost resembled a crime scene due to the amount of blood she was gushing.

“My hand’s size was the size of the clots. They were enormous. I would have been a little more prepared if someone had informed me that might happen. I panicked since I had no clue that might occur.

It’s obvious that neither should have occurred nor that it’s abnormal. The procedure should have been terminated if [she] had been followed for the recommended number of hours after [the operation]. Esme-Lyn was scheduled to have her teeth pulled at Whiston Hospital on December 12. She was born preterm and now avoids hospitals due to spending the first three years of her life in and out of the hospital.

When Lois arrived, she alleges she was informed that in addition to the two scheduled teeth extractions, a third one was also necessary. According to a representative of the Bridgewater Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, which performs dental procedures at Whiston Hospital, “We aim to provide the highest quality care to all our patients, and the potential risks following any procedure are always fully discussed with patients and carers in addition to written and verbal advice on aftercare.”

“We urge any patients, their caregivers, or family members who are dissatisfied with the treatment given to lodge a complaint with our Patient Services Team as soon as possible so their issue may be properly examined,” reads a statement from the organization.

East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, which manages Royal Blackburn Hospital, John Bannister, director of operations, said: “We are very sorry to hear Ms. Booth is dissatisfied with the care we provided to her daughter as we work hard to provide safe, individualized, and effective care to all our patients.

We value patient privacy, thus we avoid discussing specific situations with the media. We kindly request that Ms. Booth gets in touch with us so we may address her issues.
