Erin, a 25-year-old Dawesville resident, claims to have seen the most recent incident when she walked outside her home at 4 a.m. on Friday and saw three males mowing a kangaroo to death with rocks and a dog.
She said, “I heard this strange noise. “At first, I believed they were breaking into my vehicle, so I walked outside.
“The guys were trying to hold its legs down, but they were just laying into it, hitting it with rocks from building sites, punching it, kicking it, and holding back its head so their dog could attack it.”
Following a violent assault on a kangaroo, and a desperate call to the police, The males, according to Erin, had sweatshirts covering their faces. She claims that when she requested them to stop, they became hostile and started swearing at her, so she walked back inside. “I was pretty hot up on adrenaline and freaking out,” she said.
Erin claims that despite calling the police, they never showed up. She calculates that the onslaught persisted for ten to fifteen minutes. She said, “They seemed to be trying to make it as painful as possible.”
Kangaroo assaults are often looked into by the RSPCA or Department of the Environment (DBCA), according to Western Australia Police. But it also said, “If a community member sees an armed person in public and feels that their safety is in danger, they should call police immediately.”
Erin has spent the weekend collecting information on a number of claimed assaults in her neighborhood since the attack on her front yard. Other locals have sent her CCTV footage and photographs of suspected attacks in the Dawesville area.
After assaults, residents are hesitant to leave their houses. At least four kangaroo assaults have been reported, with one supposedly occurring as early as January 2022, according to Yahoo. The RSCPA responded to inquiries from the DBCA by stating that it was looking into the occurrences, analyzing video, and contacting witnesses.
A representative for the organization stated, “RSPCA WA is deeply concerned to hear about any instances of cruelty against vulnerable animals, but especially instances where the abuse is intentional and deliberate-there is absolutely no excuse for it.”
Erin claims that many of her neighbors are too afraid to stroll the streets, especially at night, while the inquiry goes on. She stated, “They’ve (killed a kangaroo) just outside where I live, making my boyfriend and me rather anxious being in our home right now.
Erin said that she had just moved into her home after building it a year before and that she didn’t want to be forced to relocate. But she said, “If nothing happens, and we feel unsafe in the house, then we might look at moving.”
