On April 27, a picture of the 41-year-old Suits star and the caption, “We are honored to announce that WME now represents Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex in all areas,” was posted to the account of the talent agency.
Meghan reportedly inked a contract with WME, according to Variety on Thursday. Jill Smoller, Serena Williams’ longtime agent and a close friend of the Duchess, is a member of her team.
A source claims that WME will take over the representation of Meghan and Harry’s business, Archewell Productions, which they established in 2020 “to produce programming that informs, elevates, and inspires.” The couple has collaborated with Netflix to create both scripted and unscripted projects, including their docuseries Harry & Meghan, which will premiere in 2022.
Although one aspect of Meghan’s work with WME will be film and television production, fans probably won’t see her going back to her TV origins. Variety claims that the emphasis will not be on acting.
After leaving their positions as senior working royals in 2020, the author of The Bench and her 38-year-old spouse relocated to California. The pair have been open about their experiences traveling before and after making their royal leave permanent in 2021. They are raising their children in the United States, Archie, 3, and Lilibet, 22 months.
In an October 2022 Variety cover story, Meghan reminisced on her time in Hollywood and hinted that she was “done” with acting for the time being. Before establishing Archewell, she said that she “didn’t think [she’d] ever be in the entertainment industry again,” adding, “I guess never say never, but my intention is to absolutely not [again].”
Meghan acknowledged her personal reluctance to return to the screen but added that she wouldn’t be averse if Archie or Lili ever had an interest in acting. “I would say, ‘Great!'” she said to the outlet. When you become a parent, you sincerely want to help your children discover the things that make them ecstatically happy.
They are our children, of course, and they are a member of a family that will have different expectations for them. However, I want them to be able to forge their own course. Great if it’s the entertainment sector. Likewise, good luck.
There are a lot of individuals who will speak about what allowed my children to enter the world, she said. However, talent and a lot of grit are still required. We are producing multifaceted, fascinating, compassionate, and creative individuals. That describes our children.
Prior to moving to Santa Barbara’s Montecito district, the Sussexes first relocated to Los Angeles, where a source previously revealed to Us Weekly that Harry had lofty Hollywood aspirations.
The source reportedly disclosed in August 2020 that the Spare author was “determined to make it” on his own and that “he’s focusing on making documentaries connected to good causes — not just on the production side of things.” He’ll be in front of the camera as well, but more as a spokesman than anything else.
The source said that while the former military pilot “always had a creative streak,” his wife “inspired him to take it to the next level.”
According to the source, “Working in the entertainment industry isn’t something he particularly thought about doing as a royal, but since separating from the royals, he now has the opportunity to explore new, exciting opportunities and can’t wait to get his upcoming projects off the ground.”
