Jennifer Lawrence and Anne Hathaway steal the show once again

Jennifer Lawrence won Best Leading Actress for her role in Silver Linings Playbook at the Screen Actors Guild Awards last night, while Anne Hathaway took home Best Supporting Actress for Les Misérables. The accolades follow on from their respective successes at the Golden Globes earlier this month, and suggest that Oscar glory could be imminent when the ceremony takes place on February 24.

"This is incredible, thank you so much," said Lawrence in her acceptance speech. "I want to thank MTV. I earnt my SAG card when I was 14 and I did a promo for My Super Sweet 16. I remember getting it in the mail and it being the best day of my life because it officially made me a professional actor, which put me in the category with all of you. Now I have this naked statue that means that some of you even voted for me. That is an indescribable feeling."

Lawrence attracted attention from the tabloids after suffering from a supposed dress malfunction, in which the tiers of her Dior Couture gown rose to reveal her legs. Hathaway’s tearful acceptance speech was also a subject of conversation, in which she thanked fellow actors at the ceremony for their "kindness and support" throughout her career.

Argo topped the Best Motion Picture Ensemble category, as Daniel Day-Lewis received the Best Leading Actor award for Lincoln. The cast of British series Downton Abbey were crowned Outstanding Ensemble in a Drama Series. Skyfall was recognised for Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Ensemble, while the category’s television equivalent was given to Game of Thrones.

Best Supporting Actor went to Tommy Lee Jones for Lincoln; Best Television Actor in a Drama Series to Bryan Cranston for Breaking Bad and Best Television Actress in a Drama Series to Claire Danes for Homeland. – Vogue
