DKNY Unveils New Logo

DKNY designers Maxwell Osborne and Dao-Yi Chow unveiled the brand's new logo today.

Among the slew of fashion week invites that arrived on our desks today is one for DKNY’s spring 2016 show, featuring, unexpectedly, the brand’s new logo.

Recently appointed creative directors Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne, who are also the founding designers behind Public School, told WWD that they chose Franklin Gothic for the reimagined logo because it is both bold and American. Rectangular blocks lie on each side, paying homage to the brand’s New York City roots. Chow and Osborne liken the graphic accoutrements to road markings – the ones that mean you can legally speed up, change lanes and pass the driver in front of you.

Since the appointment of Chow and Osborne in April, there have been some major shake ups for the brand. In July, Donna Karan stepped down as chief designer of Donna Karan International, followed by the resignation of Aliza Licht, aka DKNY PR Girl, this fall. The announcement from Licht arrived a day after DKNY wiped its social media accounts clean.

The new logo has certainly added to the hype that’s been building all summer for DKNY, making it one of our dozen labels to watch at New York Fashion Week. We’ll have to wait and see the final reveal – the clothes – on Sept. 16.
