Piers Morgan has been cleared of Ofcom complaints after a record number of people took issue over comments he made on Good Morning Britain. The former host of the ITV show was embroiled in a heated debate back in March which saw him storm off the set live on-air.
It came after Piers, 46, refused to believe claims from Meghan Markle during her tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey. His rant about Meghan’s comments during the interview received the most complaints to Ofcom in a decade – with more than 57,000 people lodging a complaint.

However, Ofcom has said that GMB was not in breach of the broadcasting code over Piers’ comments about the Duchess of Sussex’s interview with Oprah. The broadcasting watchdog confirmed the news on Wednesday morning (September 1).
Ofcom said Piers’ comments were “potentially harmful and offensive” but ruled the ITV show was not in breach of the broadcasting code. An Ofcom spokesman said: “This was a finely-balanced decision. Mr. Morgan’s comments were potentially harmful and offensive to viewers, and we recognize the strong public reaction to them.

“But we also took full account of freedom of expression. Under our rules, broadcasters can include controversial opinions as part of legitimate debate in the public interest, and the strong challenge to Mr. Morgan from other contributors provided important context for viewers.
“Nonetheless, we’ve reminded ITV to take greater care around content discussing mental health and suicide in the future. “ITV might consider the use of timely warnings or signposting of support services to ensure viewers are properly protected.” Piers said the Ofcom ruling was a “resounding victory”.
