George Clooney turned down an easy €30m payday because of his wife Amal

We always knew that George Clooney was up there with the nicest guys in Hollywood and he’s now proved once again that he’s always going to put morals above money.

While we might jump at the chance of an easy payday and lose sleep at the thought of missing out on a superstar-sized windfall of millions, not Mr. Clooney.

That’s right, the Hollywood heartthrob turned down $35million (€30million) to appear in an advert because it didn’t sit right with him or his human rights lawyer wife Amal.

George explained to The Guardian: ‘I was offered $35m for one day’s work for an airline commercial, but I talked to Amal about it and we decided it’s not worth it.

‘It was [associated with] a country that, although it’s an ally, is questionable at times, and so I thought, “Well if it takes a minute’s sleep away from me, it’s not worth it”.’ Very admirable, George.

Obviously being a Hollywood superstar, ER icon, tequila businessman, and the face of Nespresso, George isn’t short of a few bobs at this point in his decades-long career.

This luxury is something George is more than aware of, with him saying that when he turned 60, he and Amal spoke about not having to ‘book themselves silly’ with work and instead of wanting to focus more on ‘living’.

George’s moral compass is surely influenced by his wife, who has represented Nobel Peace Prize winners, but he also praised his journalist dad Nick in his new interview.

He told the publication: ‘My dad made one rule for me and that was: “I don’t care what you do in life, but challenge people with greater power than you and defend those with less power”.’

Reflecting on raising his own children, George said he’s been soaking up lots of time with four-year-old twins Ella and Alexander over the pandemic.

George said he and Amal only use a nanny four days a week and the rest of the time it’s just the two of them raising the twins.

He joked: ‘And during the lockdown, it was just us – for a full year! I felt like my mother in 1964, doing dishes and six loads of laundry a day.’
