The term size 0″ is used to refer to extremely thin individuals especially women. Size 0 clothing usually fit measurements of chest-stomach-hips from 30-22-32 inches (76-56-81 cm) to 33-25-35 inches (84-64-89 cm).
Size 0 has become the ideal status symbol over the years. This craze has been fuelled by successful skinny celebrities and models who dominate the fashion industry. The ultimate goal of size 0 is to discourage eating. Coffee and cigarrettes have been replaced by actual food. The mission at the end is to squeeze hips into a pair of jeans with the magic number 0 on the label, no matter what the side effects may be.
Size Zero is a women’s clothing size in the US system equivalent to a UK size 4. The size 0 rage is inspiring a sales boom in London. Even supermarket chains like Asda have now launched a size zero range. The British Fashion Council has discouraged designers from hiring anorexic girls. But It failed to ban the big size zero though as they said they lacked the authority to do so. According to the council victimising or refusing a person to work on the basis of their size constituted discrimination. This movement was financed by major High Street brand names like Tesco and Marks & Spencer. They have urged others to veto models with a Body Mass Index below 18, it has been classified as underweight by the World Health Organisation.
In case this rule gets implemented this would leave supermodels like Kate Moss, Giselle Bundchen and Lily Cole out.The average catwalk model has a BMI of just 16. Ken Livingstone, Mayor of London, has threatened to withdraw £103 000 sponsorship if underweight girls are allowed on the catwalk.
The debate about size 0 has not reached a conclusion yet.
