The 14th edition of the Amsterdam International Fashion Week (AIFW) started Wednesday January 26th. On schedule are about 25 shows. Part of the AIFW is Fashion Week LAB, a platform for young designers. About 10 designers show their F/W collections 2011 off-schedule.
Six years ago Jan Taminiau, known for his romantic style, showed for the first time during AIFW. Since then his star is rising: Lady Gaga was spotted in one of his dresses with matching shoes. Another famous client is princess Máxima of the Netherlands.
Well, it’s time for Amsterdam Fashion Week again, which means shows by designers such as: Jan Taminiau, Spijkers en Spijkers, Bas Kosters, Addy van den Krommenacker, Tony Cohen, Supertrash and so on.
The morning of Amsterdam International Fashion Week Amsterdam brought two very interesting collections to the catwalk: Roparosa, by Roos van der Kamp, and Bravoure Amsterdam. The afw winter collection of Roparosa was simple and playful with geometrical designs and fluorescent colors.
The knitted trousers and tops are the most lovely. Bravoure Amsterdam showed all-black pieces with some great African inspired details like: feather hats, golden crowns and colorful beads. It was a very simple but elegant collection. One of my favorites!!
Sober presented their third afw winter collection. The Sober philosophy combines workmanship, attention to details, and a sincere devotion to high quality. Sober showed a wearable collection in a beautiful colour range and clear shapes.
Collection Arnhem is developed by third-year fashion students of Academy Arnhem. The second show that day was of the talented woman Roya Hesam. Her collection was inspired on the Polynesian Islands, especially focused on the nature and art from Polynesia. The soft colors she used were so beautiful!
At last but definetly not least SIS by Spijkers & Spijkers showcased the afw 2011-12 Collection. This season, sisters Truus and Riet Spijkers were inspired by ‘Fast Ladies’, with Amelia Earhart as their muse. The ensembles on the catwalk featured modern versions of racing and pilot’s uniforms with knitted dresses, tailored leather jackets and loose fitted pants. A very wearable collection!
