One accident after another has forced the Council of Fashion Designers of America to take instant measures and to publish its criteria for professional models. The Council of Fashion Designers of America has released a list of recommendations as part of a new health initiative for the models. They have established it that they want models to be healthy, not anorexic, drugged or chain-smokers. These guidelines were issued three weeks before all the designers were scheduled to showcase their fall collections.
The Council of Fashion Designers of America suggested that models less than 16 years of age should be kept off the runway. Models under 18 are not allowed to work at fittings or photo shoots past midnight.
Educating those in the industry to identify the early warning signs of eating disorders has been emphasized by the Council. Models identified as having an eating disorder are required to receive professional help. Only those models are allowed to continue with works that have approval from that professional. The Council suggested developing workshops on the causes and effects of eating disorders.
Awareness regarding the effects of smoking and tobacco-related disease has been encouraged .It has also been stated that during fashion shows healthy meals and snacks should be provided. Smoking and alcohol should be prohibited.
