Opening doors into fashion careers from iD Dunedin’s runway to catwalks in Milan and New York, 31 finalists including 13 New Zealanders have been selected to show at the 2011 iD International Emerging Designer Awards. The Awards will be held on Thursday, 7 April 2011, at the Lion Foundation Arena, Edgar Stadium, Dunedin, New Zealand.
Now in its seventh year, the 2011 iD International Emerging Designer Awards attracted more than 120 entries from 20 countries, representing some of the most prestigious fashion schools in the world. The finalists are from nine different countries and despite increasing global competition, the number of New Zealand and Australian finalists up from previous years.
The finalists’ collections represent the best of emerging fashion design, with creative and inspirational uses of textiles and new fabric technologies.
iD Dunedin Fashion Week announced new dates for 2011 at an exclusive launch on Thursday 19 August 2010. Now in its 12th year, this highly successful week celebrating the city’s fashion identity, creativity and distinct style will take place from 5-10 April 2011 in Dunedin, New Zealand.
Chair of iD Fashion Week Committee Susie Staley said that the fashion week dates had been moved from March to April to help attract the attendance of international guest designers and judges.

- The selection panel comprised of renowned New Zealand fashion designers Margi Robertson (Nom*D), Tanya
Carlson (Carlson), Charmaine Reveley (charmaine reveley).
- The iD International Emerging Designer Awards is the only fashion competition of its kind in New Zealand offering rising national and international fashion design talent their first foray into the world of professional fashion events. For many, this experience serves as their rite of passage into the fashion industry.
- The sought after prizes include NZ$5,000 for first place winner, $3,000 for second place, $1000 for third place. Other special prizes to be announced.
- Winners from the 2011 iD International Emerging Designer Awards will show their collections at the iD Dunedin Fashion Show on Friday 8 and Saturday 9 April 2011.
- A number of quality entries for the jewellery design section were received however not a sufficient number to make the category competitive on an international scale.
