Joan’s on Third, the 18-year-old gourmet marketplace, café and catering institution that anchors Los Angeles’ trendy Third Street, has long been the go-to lunch spot for starlets and PYTs busy shopping neighboring boutiques like Satine, Milk, Beckley and OK. (Kirsten Dunst, Katie Holmes and Gwyneth Paltrow have all noshed there.) The first-come, first-served sidewalk seating usually means a few minutes’ wait for a table, but no one seems to mind the extra time for people watching and trend spotting. Recent hot looks included edgy denim, jackets (notably tailored blazers and military styles), polished grunge, quirky vintage and flat ankle boots and sandals. Third Street is, after all, one of the few places that Angelenos actually walk once they park their cars.
