Miss US Alexandria Mills, the blue eyed blonde has become an overnight sensation after winning the crown of Miss World 2010 on Saturday evening in China’s Sanya city.
Dolled up in a crispy white evening gown, the 18 year old beauty wept as wept as outgoing Miss World Kaiane Aldorino of Gibraltar put the tiara on her head and directed her to a diamond-shaped throne assessing the pageant’s 60th anniversary. Miss Botswana Emma Wareus, dressed in a yellow gown, was named the first runner-up while Miss Venezuela Adriana Vasini was named the second. Alexandria Mills defeated 100 other contestants in the pageant which goes by the motto of ‘beauty with a purpose’.
The gala event kicked off with a colorful start of presentation ‘Dances of the world’ by dancers and drummers from China’s Li ethnic few assemblies, who mostly reside on Hainan isle, which was hosting the happening for the fifth time in eight years. Indian beauty Manasvi Mamgai, who even failed to find a place in the top 20, danced to the classical number Dhai Shyam rok lai from ‘Davdas’ The 22 year old was dressed in a traditional Indian attire.
In addition to that, the glittering evening also saw opera performances, melodious symphony of saxophone and group performance by the contestants.
The jury included former Miss World winners Denise Perrier Lanfranchi (1953), Ann Sidney (1964), Mary Stävin (1977), Agbani Darego (2001) and Maria Julia Mantilla (2004).
After the crowning ceremony, Miss World Alexandria Mills described herself as a very soft spoken person who loves travelling and music. She said that she would love to educate her society and for this reason, she would want to adopt teaching as her profession.
At such a tender age of 18, Alexandria is one of the youngest contestants aiming for the Miss World crown.
