Meghan Markle and Thomas Markle Sr. were very close in the past years. In her previous interviews, the former Suits star would often gush over her dad, a former lighting director. However, they had a falling out when he couldn’t make it into her big day.

According to Thomas, he had heart surgery, and his doctors advised him against traveling. Following the incident, the father and daughter’s relationship has never recovered. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been married for three years already. However, they haven’t spoken to each other yet.
Meghan’s friends claimed her dad ignored her pre-wedding. However, in the recent court hearing with Daily Mail, it was revealed that he kept in touch with her.

Thomas Markle Sr. apologized to Prince Harry and Markle that he couldn’t make it to their big day due to his heart problems. He kept on sending his daughter sweet text messages with “love you,” Daily Mail reported. He also asked the duchess would give her away.
Markle Sr. told her daughter that he was willing to fly to London if she really needed him. He also kept on apologizing for canceling his attendance due to his physical health.
Markle Sr.’s text messages were read out in the court. It was very different from the claims Markle’s friend made to People that she had been calling and texting her dad, but he didn’t respond.

“Surgery went OK. The heart attack did some damage. But the doctor won’t allow me to fly so, of course, I’m sorry I can’t come. Love you and wish you the best of everything,” he texted her on May 16, just three days before the wedding.
“Who will give you away? I will come if you really need me. I’m sorry about this,” his message for Markle the following day read.
Markle Sr.’s text messages were read out to correct the People magazine’s report, which portrayed him as a heartless father who ignored his daughters days before her wedding day.

Andrew Caldecott, who represents the Associated Newspapers, said Markle Sr. has many texts, and “they are all affectionate” were abundant in the run-up to Prince Harry and Markle’s wedding.
