Hayley Atwell may not be the leading lady in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but she still proved to be every bit the screen siren on Thursday night. The British star joined the cast of the Marvel sequel at its London premiere held at Vue Westfield, wearing a stunning strapless peekaboo dress with sequin detail.
Hayley added a pair of vibrant red heels and a silvery box clutch to complete her red carpet look. In the last Captain America movie, Atwell played Agent Peggy Carter, an officer with the Strategic Scientific Reserve during the Second World War and a love interest for the super soldier.
However, Captain America ends up frozen in suspended animation and reawakened in the modern day at the end of The First Avenger, meaning Peggy is no longer the fit young girl he fell in love with. But that doesn’t mean the end for Hayley and her stint in the Marvel Universe.
Atwell reprised her role as Carter in the Marvel One Shot film Agent Carter, which was released with the Iron Man 3 Blu-ray disc, and follows the events one year after Captain America: The First Avenger. The actress also said she was willing to star in a TV spin-off centred on Peggy, which has been given the green light by ABC, who confirmed that Reaper creators Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas will be showrunners, and that Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely will write the show’s pilot.
On Thursday night she was reunited with her former cast members Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson and Sebastian Stan. Scarlett Johansson has a much more prominent role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, having been introduced into the Marvel film franchises as Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow) in Iron Man 2.
She gets closer to Captain America in Avengers: Assemble, and now in the new film they must team up to fight a new threat to the world and everything they stand for.
