Much-loved Dunedin fashion designer Tamsin Cooper will debut her collection created to celebrate the Royal New Zealand Ballet’s 60th anniversary at iD Dunedin Fashion Week 2013.
In a New Zealand first, two of the ballet company’s ballerinas will model the collection ‘Anniversary’ by Tamsin Cooper for Royal New Zealand Ballet, alongside models at the iD Dunedin Fashion Shows on Friday March 15 and Saturday March 16 at the historic Dunedin Railway Station.
“This show will be special for a number of reasons, not least for the integral involvement of dancers from the RNZB who have been released from their touring commitments in order to take part. Whilst the synergies between dance and fashion are numerous, we will be breaking new ground at iD Dunedin Fashion Week as the dancers bring their own brand of ballet magic to the runway” Amanda Skoog Managing Director Royal New Zealand Ballet says.
The ballerinas, who will introduce an element of dance to the 120m runway will be dressed in coats and luxury accessories from the ‘Anniversary’ collection which features intricate hand embroidery and beading.
The Anniversary collection marks an ongoing collaboration, which began in 2009, between RNZB and Tamsin Cooper – who also celebrates 10 years in business this year. “It’s a huge honour to be collaborating with the Royal New Zealand Ballet on a collection celebrating 60 years of the ballet being such an integral part of our national heritage,” says Tamsin Cooper.
“I feel very humbled by the honour and am certain that iD crowds will enjoy the collection’s dramatic debut.”
Live music will be performed during the show by Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra Assistant Concertmaster, Miranda Adams. The violinist, who recently won the 2013 Auckland Philharmonia Foundation Scholarship, grew up in Dunedin. This show is certain to be a highlight at iD, showcasing the elegance and beauty of 60 years of ballet in this country, whilst celebrating a decade of design by one of New Zealand’s top accessory designers.
iD committee chair Susie Staley says she is excited to bring iD attendees such a distinctive act within a remarkable iD line-up for 2013, which includes celebrity milliner Stephen Jones and New Zealand guest designer Yvonne Bennetti.
“iD audiences will no doubt enjoy the experience of the collaboration with the Royal New Zealand Ballet on the iD catwalk. Tamsin Cooper is always a popular part of the iD show and it is a fabulous opportunity to debut the ‘Anniversary’ collection at iD. ”
