Heard and Depp have been divorced since 2016. However, they are still embroiled in a legal battle following the “Aquaman” star’s claims that her ex-husband was violent and abusive.
The “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor is suing the Sun for publishing a report calling him “wife beater.” Heard has since shown her support for the tabloid. Meanwhile, Depp’s exes Vanessa Paradis and Winona Ryder have sided with the Hollywood actor.
Depp’s rep David Sherborne said in court documents that Paradis ended his relationship with Depp in 2012 shortly before he and Heard started dating. In her statement, Paradis said that she had known Depp for over 25 years and they had been partners for 14 years while raising their two kids. However, he was never abusive to her, Daily Mail reported.
“Through all these years I’ve known Johnny to be a kind, attentive, generous, and non-violent person and father,” Paradis said. “He was never violent or abusive to me.”
Depp’s lawyer also managed to get a statement from his other ex, Ryder. Depp and the “Beetlejuice” star were together in the 1990s. In fact, they were engaged for three years.
“I cannot wrap my head around (Ms Heard’s) accusations,” Ryder said in her statement. “He was never, never violent towards me. He was never, never abusive at all towards me.”
Depp’s lawyers also obtained statements from Heard’s formal assistant and a mechanic who worked for the exes before their divorce. Meanwhile, Heard’s spokesperson dismissed the significance of the statements against the actress.
“The evidence from Mr Depp’s mechanic and a disgruntled former employee is tangential and does not speak to whether Mr Depp is the perpetrator of domestic violence against Ms Heard,” the spokesperson said.
“In relation to Vanessa Paradis and Winona Ryder’s evidence, we are glad they did not have the same experience as Ms Heard. However, one woman’s experience does not determine the experience of another woman.”
