BREAKING: Biden Wastes No Time; Pushes Aggressive Assault Weapons Ban After Colorado Shooting

Joe Biden quickly called for a new ban on so-called “assault weapons” following a mass shooting in Boulder, Colo., Monday in which 10 people, including a veteran police officer, were killed.

While admitting that he didn’t have all the details about the shooting, that didn’t stop Biden from being a stereotypical Democrat and attacking the Second Amendment.

“I don’t need to wait another minute, let alone an hour, to take common-sense steps that will save lives in the future and to urge my colleagues in the House and Senate to act,” Biden, who is president now and thus has no “colleagues” in Congress any longer, said.

“We can ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines in this country once again,” he continued. “I got that done when I was a senator. It passed. It was the law for the longest time. And it brought down these mass killings.

“We should do it again. We can close the loopholes in our background check system…that’s one of the best tools we have right now to prevent gun violence,” Biden said.

So many lies, so few words.

Biden is referring to the 1994 ‘assault weapons ban’ that was signed into law by Bill Clinton (and which was, in large part, responsible for Democrats losing control of the House for the first time in 40 years under the auspices of Newt Gingrich’s “Contract With America). And he didn’t “get it done;” the bill was written and sponsored by Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) who, by the way, is calling for a new ban as well.

The law had a 10-year sunset clause and it was not renewed under a GOP-controlled Congress in 2004 led by Republican President George W. Bush. As for how many lives the law saved, the answer is ‘negligible.’ Several studies showed that the ban had virtually no effect on reducing the murder rate in the U.S. And thus, neither will a new one.

The background check claim is another fabrication; the vast majority of guns are exchanged through licensed gun dealers and every buyer is subjected to an FBI instant background check. The only gun exchanges that are not subject to a background check are those made between individuals or family members, though in some states those exchanges are also subject to a check.

Colorado is one of those states requiring universal background checks, as Cam Edwards of Bearing Arms reported Tuesday. As well, Colorado has also banned high-capacity magazines since 2013 — all of which proves, again, that people inclined to do illegal things with guns are going to do them no matter how many laws are on the books.

And to that end, Edwards makes a great point.

Noting that leftists are complaining that just a few days ago, a state judge negated Boulder’s ‘assault weapons’ ban and that’s what led to the shooting (literally no one knows if that’s true), he wrote:

The tragedy is the fact that ten people were shot and killed on Monday, not the fact that the city’s attempt to ban commonly-owned firearms was struck down as a violation of the state’s firearm preemption law. It defies credulity to think that the suspect in this case would have abided by a law banning possession of his firearm inside the city limits, while at the same time he was willing to ignore the prohibition against murdering innocent people.

Bingo.

Biden wants a new ban on a class of firearms that are hardly ever used in gun crimes because it’s politically expedient, not because it would make Americans ‘safer.’

Besides that, what part of “shall not be infringed” do Democrats not understand?
