Bill Gates’ can’t hold a marriage or his family together, but he wants to micro manage what we do with our lives…
Earlier this week, we reported that Bill and Melinda Gates shocked the world when they announced that they are divorcing after 27 years of marriage. Now, new details about the final days of their marriage are coming to light, and they may surprise you.
Sources told TMZ that the final days of the billionaires’ marriage were contentious and that virtually everyone in the family took Melinda’s side.
The divorce had actually been in the works for months, and it had initially been planned for Bill and Melinda to announce it back in March. Melinda had even planned to rent the entire Calivigny Island in Grenada for $130,000 a night so that she and her three adult children could flee there to escape the media storm that would ensue as soon as the divorce was announced. Everyone in the family was invited except for Bill because they are all reportedly very angry with him.
However, lawyers representing both Bill and Melinda talked them out of announcing the divorce in March because they were still trying to hash out a divorce settlement, and there were still outstanding issues that couldn’t be resolved at the time of Melinda’s trip. While she agreed not to announce the divorce that month, Melinda still jetted off on the trip with her three children and each of their significant others anyway.
The takeaway from this is that this divorce is not nearly as harmonious as the Gates’ would have you believe, as Melinda and the three children are fuming with Bill about things they claim he has done. It’s also clear that while the divorce was only just announced this week, it has been a long time in the making, as it seems that they have all but reached a property settlement. On the day the divorce was announced, Bill even transferred nearly $2 billion in stock to Melinda.
Bill and Melinda have only spoken out about their divorce in the brief statement they released on Monday.
“After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage,” they said. “Over the last 27 years, we have raised three incredible children and built a foundation that works all over the world to enable all people to lead healthy, productive lives.”’
“We continue to share a belief in that mission and will continue our work together at the foundation, but we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in this next phase of our lives,” Bill and Melinda added. “We ask for space and privacy for our family as we begin to navigate this new life.”
