Posting on X, the social media platform previously known as Twitter, Jenner accused DeSantis of not defending Trump enough, writing, “YOUR TOP POLITICAL OPPONENT IS BEING UNJUSTLY PERSECUTED. Agree to pardon him! This is a sham and you know it. But you hope you benefit from it.
SHAME ON TEAM DESANTIS!” Jenner, a past reality TV personality and Republican candidate for Governor in California has expressed her discontent over DeSantis’s statement, which she felt did not fully support Trump. Both Jenner and DeSantis are contenders for the Republican presidential nomination.
Rather than directly commenting on Trump’s indictment, DeSantis reiterated his commitment to end government exploitation, saying he had yet to read the indictment. His statement read, “As President, I will end the weaponization of government, replace the FBI Director, and ensure a single standard of justice for all Americans.
While I’ve seen reports, I have not read the indictment. I do believe we need to enact reforms so that Americans can transfer cases from Washington, DC to their home districts. Washington, DC is a “swamp,” and it’s unfair to have to face a jury that reflects the swamp mentality. One of the reasons our country is in decline is the politicization of the rule of law. No more excuses—I will end the weaponization of the federal government.”
In previous statements, DeSantis hinted at the possibility of pardoning Trump. When questioned specifically about pardoning defendants from the Jan. 6 incident, including Trump, DeSantis expressed on a podcast, “On day one, I will have folks that will review all these cases, those who are victims of political targeting or exploitation, and we will be assertive in granting pardons.”
He further stated, “Any example of discriminatory treatment based on politics or exploitation would be part of that review, regardless of the size or magnitude.”
On Tuesday, Trump was indicted on four criminal charges relating to his attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 election. The indictment charged Trump with conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy against people’s rights, and conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding.
As President, I will end the weaponization of government, replace the FBI Director, and ensure a single standard of justice for all Americans.
While I’ve seen reports, I have not read the indictment. I do, though, believe we need to enact reforms so that Americans have the right…
