But while Her Majesty’s firstborn son Prince Charles, 71, is set to take the reins, a royal insider has claimed the Duke could be overlooked in favour of Prince William.
Speaking to In Touch magazine, the source sensationally claimed the news of Charles allegedly being “pushed to the side” has caused unrest in the palace – specifically with his bride.
Duchess Camilla, 73, is said to be livid that she and the Duke are being sidestepped in favour of second-in-line Prince William and Kate Middleton, the insider alleged.
“William would become king – and Kate queen. Camilla isn’t pleased about that, and she let Kate know it. It’s chaos at the palace,” the insider claimed to the American publication.
“She’s terrified Charles will be bypassed and William and Kate will become king and queen,” the source added, before alleging Camilla has always wanted to be Queen.
That said, the chances of the Duchess ever becoming Queen are reportedly quite slim, after it was alleged Her Majesty “demoted” Camilla in the royal pecking order.
According to Globe magazine, a palace insider sensationally claimed the reigning monarch downgraded the Duchess, so instead of being a Queen Consort, she’ll only be a Princess Consort.
“Camilla is totally humiliated and furious at the snub,” claimed the royal insider, adding that Camilla has allegedly asked hubby Charles to step in and intervene.
The royal source went on to say that the shock move only adds more humiliation to the fact that, despite being Charles’ bride, Camilla has no senior standing in her own right.
“As the wife of the heir to the throne, Camilla is the second-highest ranked woman in the royal family behind Queen Elizabeth – but only when accompanied by her husband,” they said.
Despite the obvious hurdles, Camilla is allegedly hell-bent on fulfilling her dream of becoming Queen next to Prince Charles when he eventually ascends the throne.
“Camilla is secretly determined to fill Elizabeth’s royal shoes as queen. And ‘Princess Perfect’ Kate is Camilla’s biggest threat,” the royal insider claimed to In Touch.
