The couple, once considered one of Hollywood’s most enduring love stories, announced their separation in a joint statement in September 2023, saying they had “decided to separate to pursue our individual growth” after what they described as a “wonderful, loving marriage.”
Now, almost two years later, Furness has officially filed for divorce as of May 23, and is publicly sharing her personal reflections on the end of their relationship. In a heartfelt statement provided to the Daily Mail, she expressed the depth of her emotional pain and the hard-won lessons she has taken from the experience.
“My heart and compassion goes out to everyone who has traversed the traumatic journey of betrayal. It’s a profound wound that cuts deep,” she said.
Despite the hurt, Furness spoke of her belief in spiritual guidance and the growth that comes from adversity. “However, I believe in a higher power and that God or the universe, whatever you relate to as your guidance, is always working for us,” she continued.
“I have gained much knowledge and wisdom through this experience. Even when we are presented with apparent adversity, it is leading us to our greatest good, our true purpose,” she added. “It can hurt, but in the long run, returning to yourself and living within your own integrity, values and boundaries is liberation and freedom.”
Even in the wake of the divorce filing, Furness reflected on her marriage with grace and gratitude, emphasizing that the end of their relationship was not driven by blame.
“None of this is personal,” she said. “We are all on our individual journeys and I believe that the relationships in our lives are not random. We are drawn to people, we invite them in, in order to learn our lessons and to recognize and heal the broken parts of ourselves. I remain grateful.”
Furness’s comments come as Hugh Jackman has reportedly begun a new chapter with The Music Man costar Sutton Foster, though neither Jackman nor Foster has publicly confirmed the nature of their relationship.
As Furness steps forward to share her truth, her words offer a poignant reminder of both the pain of parting and the resilience required to move forward with purpose.
