Drew Barrymore has created so many memorable moments on her talk show. Keanu Reeves walking off after delivering the perfect quote was a moment viewers completely ate up. We’ve also seen Barrymore get completely emotional on her show. That was especially the case when David Letterman made a surprise appearance on her talk show. It turned into a great moment and one she clearly wasn’t expecting.
In the following, we’re going to take a look at another emotional interview between Barrymore and her guest, Pamela Anderson. Barrymore broke down during their conversation, showing raw emotion. However, for some fans, it was all too much. We’ll reveal what was said, and why fans had split reactions to the conversation.
Drew Barrymore admitted that those around her felt skeptical about her parenting skills given her troubling past. Although people generally view her past in a negative light, Barrymore takes a different approach.
She revealed with People, “I also think things that are emotional and raw are also a lot lighter than they seemed. Someone once said to me, ‘But your life it’s so sad.’ And I was like, ‘Well, no, it’s not to me, but I could see how you would think that.’ My life is amazing.”
In terms of raising her children, those around Barrymore worried about what she would tell them about her upbringing. This was a non-issue for Barrymore, who was just focused on giving them the best life possible.
“When I first started having children, people were like, ‘Well, what are you going to tell them about [your upbringing]?’ And there was always a connotation and insinuation of, ‘You should be ashamed,’” she adds. “But that’s crazy. [My daughters] are going to know I’m not some holier-than-thou person who just doesn’t want them to live. I just want to guide them in the best way possible.”
Barrymore holds a lot of pride when it comes to motherhood, and that was on full display during her interview with Pamela Anderson. It was an emotionally charged interview between Pamela Anderson and Drew Barrymore. The two had several relatable circumstances, including the way they were raised.
Barrymore began to get emotional after asking Anderson if they’re so protective of their children because of their past. Anderson answered, “Definitely. My kids didn’t know they had a security guard at school. I hired someone to be an assistant P.E. instructor just to be there because people were trying to take them off the schoolyard.
I had to find clever ways to make them feel everything was normal, but I needed to know the eyes were on them. I was not going to take that chance.” At that point, Barrymore got emotional listening to Pamela’s response and began to cry. She said, “At a certain point, I so understand. I get it. Don’t f*** with my kids! This is not OK.”
Anderson reassures Barrymore that everything will be okay in the end. The guest would also open up about her relationship with Tommy Lee, “I don’t even care if I’m alone the rest of my life. I’ve experienced really wonderful, loving moments, and sometimes things don’t last forever for a reason and it’s OK,” Anderson says. “It’s fine. The last year I spent alone I think has been the happiest year of my life.” As expected, the interview went viral, but fans were split on what had transpired between the two.
Fans seemed to be mixed following the interview. Over on YouTube, some of the most liked comments bashed Drew Barrymore for invading Anderson’s personal space during the interview, and not understanding basic social cues.
One fan writes, “Drew is definitely violating Pam’s personal space but if you grew up during her era and watched her documentary, you kinda wanna do the same lol. I just wanna hug her and listen to all her stories about Tommy, Baywatch, and just life. WE LOVE YOU PAM.”
Another fan comments, “This is the most uncomfortable I have ever seen anyone with Drew. And it’s the first time Drew seems like she’s not reading social cues properly. Drew’s energy in this video is intense.”
One fan writes, “I just love how Drew gets so emotional in her interviews, it makes her so human and vulnerable. Her vulnerability is one of the many amazing things about her.”
In reality, it is hard to bash Drew for showing such real emotions and concerns for her kids. However, there is the question as to whether or not Pam felt awkward… We’ll leave that interpretation up to the viewer.
