During the April 23 episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, the actress and host opened up about their decades-long friendship — and it sounds like another movie could be in the works.
When asked by a fan if she and Sandler would be teaming up again soon, she didn’t hesitate. “That’s a yes. And it’s a matter of when, but I don’t think it’ll be too long because we’ve always done something every 10 years,” she said with a smile.
She did admit they’re already overdue — their last film together, Blended, came out in 2014. “We’re running out of time; we’re past 10 years at this point,” she added, according to People. But it’s not a lack of desire — they’re just waiting for the right idea. “We’re constantly seeing each other and hanging out, so I think it’s always a matter of, ‘What is it?’ So we’re on the search for it because we’re happy when we’re together.”
Barrymore took a moment to reflect on how far they’ve come since they first co-starred in The Wedding Singer back in 1998. “We’ve had so many evolutions. When we started The Wedding Singer, we were both young and single and in our early 20s,” she said. “Now we’re both parents and have girls of a certain age.” She’s clearly keen for their next project to reflect who they are now. “So what is the thing that’s going to sort of speak to what we do next? We’ve just got to find it.”
But Drew didn’t stop there. She’s got dreams of taking the reunion to another level, with Jennifer Aniston joining in too. “I also am always fighting to do a movie with him and Jennifer Aniston. I so want to do a movie with the three of us,” she revealed.
Ending on a sweet note, Barrymore opened up about her deep bond with Sandler and his family. “I will grow old with him and Jackie,” she said, referring to Sandler’s wife. “We’re together all the time. His wife Jackie is my dear friend,” she added, sharing that their daughters are also close.
It’s clear the love is real — now we’re just waiting for the movie magic to return.
