Eddie Redmayne admits he made beautiful music with Taylor Swift but it was strictly professional. The Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them actor stopped by Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on Wednesday to discuss his new film, but a fan called in with a more personal question. “Can you put the rumors to rest: did you ever go out on a date with Taylor Swift?” the fan asked. “I absolutely can put the rumors to rest,” the 34-year-old Oscar winner replied.
“I never went out on a date with Taylor Swift.” However, Redmayne, who is now married to Hannah Bagshawe and is a father to their daughter Iris, did reveal that he met the 26-year-old pop star when she auditioned for the 2012 film adaptation of Les Misérables. “She was amazing in the audition. We got to sing together which was a big moment for me but no, we never went out,” he said. According to Time, Swift tried out for the role of Eponine, a poor girl who has unrequited love for Redmayne’s character, Marius. Although Lea Michele, Evan Rachel Wood and Scarlett Johansson also auditioned, the part went to Samantha Barks. “She was extraordinary,” Redmayne said of Swift’s audition. Cohen also took the opportunity to ask Redmayne what he thought of Anne Hathaway getting “flak” for her role as Fantine in the musical movie. “I honestly don’t know, because I think she’s formidable,” he answered. “I think she was kind of extraordinary in that film. It was an amazing thing because we were doing it live and it was the first time any of us had done it. One person would go and sing live for the first time and come and sort of report back, about how it had gone. She basically educated the rest of us on how to do it.”
