Ellen DeGeneres gave away $30,000 to a high-school student. The female student is caught up in a legal flap over her school’s prom policy. Ellen DeGeneres gave her a $30,000 scholarship on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”
Constance McMillen is challenging Itawamba County School District rules. The rules prohibit her from taking her girlfriend to the prom at her school.The school cancelled the prom after Constance McMillen’s request.
She was speechless when Ellen DeGeneres gave her the cheque on the Friday show.
The hearing for Constance McMillen’s request will be held in federal court in Aberdeen on American Civil Liberties Union on Monday. The court will force the district to hold the prom. The school board claims that it canceled the prom because it was distracting students from their education.
Ellen DeGeneres said on her show that it is not easy to be quiet especially when it creates hype in the society. People generally get up and point out that one is wrong but she admits she admires Constance McMillen for standing up still. Constance McMillen accepted that a lot of people are angry with her for getting the prom cancelled but she like any other girls wants to be able to go, be herself and enjoy the prom night.
