While most members of the Royal Family have attended universities like Cambridge, Prince William made the unusual decision to attend the University of St Andrew’s in Scotland. It was here William met Kate Middleton, who at the time was also studying for a degree in Art History. After a period where they were just friends, the couple later married and became the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

1) Kate attended the same school as her husband’s cousin, Princess Eugenie.
Both women attended the prestigious independent school, Marlborough College, in Wiltshire.
2) Kate shares the same middle name as the Queen’s first name, as before her marriage Kate’s full name was Catherine Elizabeth Middleton.
3) Like most brides, Kate was not without her ‘something blue’ on her wedding day.
But you wouldn’t have spotted it on the big day, as her dress designer stitched a blue ribbon ino the interior of her wedding dress for the ceremony.
4) As well as being the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate also holds the title of Countess of Strathearn when she visits Scotland, and Lady Carrickfergus while in Northern Ireland.
5) On her wedding day, Kate wore the Queen’s prized tiara, which was gifted to the Queen by her mother on her 18th birthday.
6) While London Mayor, Prime Minister Boris Johnson gifted Kate and William a tandem bike to celebrate their wedding.
7) Kate is passionate about photography, and is patron of a number of photography initiatives.
Kate often takes her children’s birthday photographs herself, and is a driving force behind the National Portrait Gallery’s current Hold Still project while the UK is on lockdown.
8) Kate is older than Prince William by about six months.
9) During their engagement interview with the BBC, William joked Kate had a poster of William on her bedroom wall while in halls.
Kate was quick to correct him however, as she actually had a picture of the “Levi’s guy” on her wall.
10) For her 30th birthday in 2012, reality star Kim Kardashian revealed she had created a special shoe just for Kate.
The style was called ‘The Duchess’.
